Ash Shepherd

President & Head of Strategy

Ash Shepherd brings 20+ years of energy industry experience. Prior to joining CarbonCycle as President & Head of Strategy, Ash served as founder and Director of Business Development for Talos Low Carbon Solutions (“TLCS”), a Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage business. Notably, the TLCS team was responsible for originating the Bayou Bend CCUS project alongside Carbonvert, which was the first offshore CCUS lease in United States history. TLCS was subsequently sold to TotalEnergies in early 2024. Prior to forming TLCS, Mr. Shepherd served for nearly a decade in various business and corporate development capacities at Talos Energy, a once private equity backed now publicly traded exploration and production company. This included building the company’s first international business venture in Mexico, which resulted in the largest shallow water discovery worldwide in the past quarter century. This in turn led Mr. Shepherd to receiving Oil & Gas Investor Magazine’s exclusive “Thirty Under 40” award, which highlights younger professionals making industry-leading contributions to the energy business. Prior to entering the energy industry, Ash spent nearly three-years at the Department of Energy (“DOE”) as Intergovernmental Liaison for the office of Congressional and Intergovernmental Affairs. This position was a Schedule C appointment by President George W. Bush. This office oversaw all legislative policy divisions within the DOE, including renewable and energy transition related programs. Mr. Shepherd graduated from St. Edwards University with a Bachelor of Business Administration. He subsequently graduated from South Texas College of Law and is licensed to practice law by the State Bar of Texas. Most recently, Ash graduated from Rice University with an Executive MBA.
